The iDPI, based out of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, studies “the civic and social role of internet platforms” and advocates for creating new platforms which serve as “public spaces and public goods.” Their work was helpful in guiding this project’s thinking, and other products they’ve developed are listed further below.
The Society of Professional Journalists is a nationwide organization of journalists whose goals range from legal defense of First Amendment rights to establishing a code of ethics for journalistic media. Their Journalist’s Toolbox includes a section of social media resources with everything from tools to create graphics to web scraping tools to further reading on emerging social media like Mastodon.
